The reign of Richard II is remembered by English historians as an unwise, foolish and careless way of ruling England, a time when the King seemed to be dominated by greed and lack of principles and honour. It is the invasion of the lands of Henry Bolingbroke that trigger the main event of this play, the rise and fall of a king who was not loved by many, but hated by almost all. Richard II will fall, while Henry will become the new king, King Henry IV.
