    F. SCOTT FITZGERALD (1896-1940) a fost un romancier si autor de proza scurta american, a carui opera este emblematica pentru „epoca jazzului". A scris patru romane: Dincoace de Paradis, Cei frumosi si blestemati, Marele Gatsby si Blandetea noptii. Cel de-al cincilea roman al sau, Ultimul magnat, ramas neterminat, a aparut postum. Fitzgerald a scris, de asemenea, numeroase povestiri, dintre care multe au ca teme tineretea si speranta sau batranetea si deznadejdea.

Oscar Wilde (1854–1900) a fost un prozator, poet şi dramaturg de origine irlandeză. Romanul său Portretul lui Dorian Gray a devenit un manifest al estetismului şi una dintre cele mai importante cărți ale secolului al XIX-lea. Wilde a mai scris povestiri, printre care Crima lordului Arthur Savile şi Fantoma din Canterville, și piese de teatru, dintre care cele mai cunoscute sunt Evantaiul doamnei Windermere, O femeie fără importanță, Soțul ideal și Ce înseamnă să fii onest. A fost arestat şi condamnat la doi ani de închisoare pentru ultraj la moralitatea publică, răstimp în care a scris confesiunea De Profundis.
